June 29, from 12:40 p.m. (June 29 at 7:40 p.m. PT), Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu, traveling to Italy to attend the meeting of G20 Foreign Affairs and Development ministers, met for about twenty minutes Mr. Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam. - The two ministers had an exchange of views on the situation in Myanmar. As a preamble, Deputy Minister Erywan presented recent developments since their telephone interview of June 9 as well as future ASEAN initiatives.
- In response, Minister MOTEGI said that Japan would support the future ASEAN Special Envoy and clarified Japan’s positions regarding the latter’s actions. At the same time, he also indicated that Japan would continue its appeals to the Burmese military for the establishment of a dialogue and the release of those arrested. The two ministers agreed to continue their close collaboration on the Burmese issue.
