What was the traditional Wimbledon dinner of champions? How was your time with Carlos Alcaraz, the men’s singles winner?
It was difficult, we waited a long time for him to finish the match. There wasn’t even a champion dance, it was canceled last year. But I enjoyed it, even though I was already quite exhausted. We were there until about one in the morning.
You also had a lot of Czech partners there: Barbora Strýcová, juniors Alena Kovačková and Laura Samsonová. Did you manage to celebrate it together?
It’s great that there were so many of us. Bára Strýcová came a little later, but we enjoyed it. Although everyone has their own table, we weren’t together right away, but we still met and we have a lot of photos. It’s incredible how it all came together in London. It can be seen that it can be done here.
How many times have you had to answer someone’s question: How do you manage to have so many good female tennis players in the Czech Republic?
About a hundred and fifty times. I replied that I don’t know, that everyone is asking us about it, but we don’t have an answer for it.
Among those interested was Princess Kate. Did you manage to have a conversation with her for a while after the victory when she was giving you the trophy?
I have these conversations in a bit of a fog, but they are iconic moments, I saw myself with her inside. But a lot of famous people are talking about you and you’re still trying to process what happened, it’s difficult.
You wore a black dress to the Champions Dinner. How does one go about choosing a dress for such an event?
The girls and I went to pick them up in the city. We didn’t like the ones offered by the organizers.
And to top it off, you put on white sneakers and entertained your fans on social networks. Were you also able to choose yourself?
I had a floor length dress so I knew it wouldn’t normally show. But then they asked me to grab my skirt and I had to show them. Otherwise no one would know I have them. I didn’t want to risk anything because of a sore ankle. But in general, I don’t really like high-heeled shoes, they hurt my feet, so I like to avoid them.
Thanks to your triumph at Wimbledon, you also won a bet with coach Jan Hernych, who must have a strawberry tattooed on his body. Do you already know when and where you will commit it?
We haven’t fully planned it yet. He’s got quite a lot now and so am I, we’re both looking around a bit here. But I have more favorite tattoo artists here in Prague. I’ll take it somewhere, I’ll probably add something too.
How did the cat that your husband took care of until the finale welcome you home?
The cat looked at the winning plate and was completely wondering: What is this, where is the food and why have you not been here for so long? So I gave her a bag and she was fine.
Now, in addition to rest, there are certainly a lot of marketing offers waiting for you, aren’t you afraid of that?
I have a team of people around me who will solve it for me and only the important things will reach me. I’ll try to do as little as possible because it’s seriously exhausting. I’m not the type to take everything.
