Daniele’s first job was at a large makeup company, but she was nowhere near represented in those products. “There I realized that we only made make-up for white skins and I felt that I needed to do something, but it was way beyond that. I wanted to be able to talk to other women about black aesthetics, about self-esteem, about the appreciation of our traits. Makeup is just the vehicle. It motivated me in the beginning and it is what motivates me until today ”, she began, in an interview with Vogue.
With a turnover of just R $ 800 per month, she decided to invest in a course to learn the basics of makeup and start there her journey to change the world of beauty. “I took a basic course to learn techniques, because until that moment I only understood about the products, but I didn’t know how to use them. In order to maintain myself, I started to make up some people and set up my network of clients. In classes, we always talked about things that went far beyond beauty, it was a deep connection with our internal issues, they even spoke of it as therapy. Then I started to professionalize. ”
During this period, life was very busy for Daniele. “I worked as a waitress in a restaurant that was on the back street, when my hours were over, at night, I went out to teach, which was what I really wanted to do. I didn’t want to wake up early every day and do something else, but that’s how I did it. It is not just believing in your dream and thinking that everything will work out, you have to work hard ”, he said. “I had no money for anything, I don’t even know how I survived at that time. There was no pop, you know? DaMata was a gradual construction, selling a lot of course, giving a lot of consultancy, making up a lot of people. It is a crescent, literally. I am very grateful to the team that is with me ”, he completes.
After a lot of fighting, the reward came: in 2020, the revenue of DaMata Makeup grew 58.20%. “This transition is not over, it is still happening. I have a very close relationship with my audience and I can be successful in several business models because I am welcomed. It has been important to expand, I managed to expand my network and reach other places ”, explains Dani.
“If you are born a black woman and come from a peripheral family, you do not dream that kind of thing, it is very unthinkable. Now it is no more. I want to awaken something good in people, to be an agent of change. This is what I believe in, it is what I want with my brand ”, she concluded, who is inspired by Fenty Beauty, idealized and signed by Rihanna.
