Meet SPRING in the theater: repertoire for March

The Alytus City Theater welcomes spring with impatience – already on March 22 at 6 p.m. the legendary “Baltaragio’s Mill” (directed by ME MičiulytΔ—) will be revived on the stage of the theater – hurry up and be the first to see the premiere. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the March repertoire:

𝐊𝐨𝐯𝐨 πŸ• 𝐝. πŸπŸ– 𝐯π₯. One-part performance “MARRIAGE” (dir. S. Zhyrkov) N-16

Try to understand and interpret what people think about being together in our digital, changing and war-torn times. Why do they need each other? What motivates us to look for a friend and what causes us to break up?

Each of us at different times in our lives has experienced the feeling of loneliness and each of us has tried to fill this void with “something”. It’s a matter for “someone” and “someone” is sharing their life with another person.

One of the most successful Ukrainian directors, Stas Zhyrkov, searches for answers and explores the themes of loneliness, age, marriage and divorce in the play “Marriage”. The performance is based on the motifs of NV Gogol’s play, which even after 180 years invites us to look deeper and search for meaning and/or answers.

Why? Because the theater cares! It is not the numbers in the statistics that matter (unfortunately, Lithuania and Latvia are the leaders in divorces, 3.1 divorces per 1,000 inhabitants), but the topic that is relevant today and tomorrow. The theater is concerned with the analysis of a time slice, reflection on world events and societal problems, disclosure of topics that may be (un)popular and/or (un)relevant here and now. And their relevance depends only on our desire to understand these topics.

During the performance, you will feel close to what will happen on stage. In the restored five-room apartment, the audience will have the opportunity to feel as if they were there. Such closeness of the viewer is necessary in order to fully immerse oneself in the reality of what is happening.

Thanks to the Lithuanian dramatist GabrielΔ— LabanauskaitΔ—, the characters of the play – funny and comical – are brought to the present, more recognizable and close, and their dialogues are more relevant and acute for today’s problems.

We promise: during the performance, some will laugh and smile at the comedy of strange situations, others will recognize their own life experiences, which are not always so easy to laugh at…

𝐊𝐨𝐯𝐨 πŸπŸ” 𝐝. 𝟏𝟏 𝐯π₯π₯. Performance for children “KUPRIUKAS MUZIKANTAS” (dir. J. GaiΕΎauskas)

– And what is a wedding?

– When the boy takes the girl home?

– Are you going to bring it?

– Can’t you see the forest? I’m ugly.

Says Kupriukas, a down-on-his-luck kid who constantly stays away from others. His hump is his shame, but his kindness, his sincerity, his creativity, with the help of the forest fairies, lighten his hard part.

This is a play about love, which is the most important thing in life and which no money can buy. “Something always gets in the way of love being simple – all kinds of reasons: parents, distance, circumstances,” says the director of the performance, Jonas GaiΕΎauskas.

The interactive performance based on the motifs of Lithuanian folk tales tells a beautiful and sensitive story about the fact that it takes a lot of effort and responsibility to overcome obstacles, to preserve beautiful feelings, love, about the fact that only you can get rid of the “hump” that symbolizes our complexes and mistrust. , about the fact that you have to choose what is more important – gold or love?

In life, external luxurious beauty and splendor mean nothing. But when a person does good deeds, he becomes beautiful and his external flaws become invisible. And when you do good to others, those around you will turn to you, extend their hand, and magically everything will change.

How old were you when you first fell in love?

The performance is intended for young viewers who have experienced the importance of this beautiful feeling that requires courage.

𝐊𝐨𝐯𝐨 𝟐𝟐 𝐝. πŸπŸ– 𝐯π₯. Musical performance “BALTARAGIO’S MILL” (directed by Milda E. MičiulytΔ—)

Miraculous events, revived myths, romantic love and the snares of the evil – this is the classic story of Kazi Boruta’s “Baltaragi’s Mill”, doomed to unfading popularity. The work of Lithuanian literature, in which the writer created a true Lithuanian epic by combining the form of a novel and the rich legacy of folklore, is being revived on the stage of the Alytus Theater in a musical format.

The musical performance “Baltaragios MalΕ«nas” is an eternal struggle between good and evil, about the struggle between man and the devil for his soul and a happy life, intertwined with the romantic love story of Girdvainis and Jurga. Supernatural phenomena, spells, evil forces defeat fragile human nature.

In this performance, as in the folklore, special attention is paid to the character of the devil – it seems that all life revolves around him. And has anyone thought why Pinčiuk acts like that? What are the motives for his behavior? The character of Pinčiukos in the play is not treated as a hostile and destructive force, not as the embodiment of evil, but as a young person who, due to his otherness, loneliness or character traits, is dehumanized, demonized, pulled to the fringes of society.

It is a human drama, a struggle against evil, which primarily symbolizes the Sisyphean struggle with fate. After all, human life is often ruled by unknown, foreign, even hostile forces that mortals cannot overcome. However, even in defeat, we can preserve our human dignity and proudly face the trials that fate sends us.

𝐊𝐨𝐯𝐨 πŸπŸ• 𝐝. πŸπŸ– 𝐯π₯. INTERNATIONAL THEATER DAY. “Teatrakmenieu” awards.

Two-part play “THE TRAM OF DESIRES” (dir. S. Shahverdyan). N-16

This is a play about today’s collapsing world. The play, written in 1947, recognized as one of the best works of world dramaturgy and awarded the Pulitzer Prize, remains extremely relevant. The revaluation of spiritual existence and values sounds new today.

The love of money, attention to a comfortable life overshadows the fading human relationships. People stop being people. The world is going wild.

The heroine of the play, Blanche, a descendant of French aristocrats who settled in the United States several hundred years ago, educated and refined, belonging to a different social class, comes to her sister in New Orleans, an area where a new generation of immigrants lives. Being a sensitive and fragile nature, she cannot come to terms with the world around her. “My life depends on the kindness of the first person I meet,” she says. Is this the Stanley that symbolizes today’s brute force world?

The play explores the theme of human loneliness and the effort to reach for anything that would help to avoid the inevitable existence, that would allow us to realize that there is no absolute happiness, that each of us is alone in this harsh world.

It is an expressive performance that emotionally affects the audience, who is on stage with the heroes. All of them are complicit in what happens in the play.
