With his rat’s tail and hanging tongue, Scooter, a 7-year-old Chinese Crested, was named the “ugliest dog in the world” at a competition held in Petaluma, California. A title that also earned him the nice reward of 1,500 dollars. A nice revenge for this dog, who was almost euthanized at birth because of a malformation of the legs.
“Scooter was born backwards, as you can see, so he’s an amazing dog,” says owner and rescuer Linda Elmquist. “He always walks on his front legs and sometimes uses his hind legs as a tripod,” she smiles. Organized for 50 years, the contest aims to celebrate the imperfections of man’s best friend but also to highlight the shelters that take care of abandoned animals and promote their adoption.
