Micah Tan, an associate researcher at Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) has been recognised for his collaborative work with older adults. Tan, who was presented with an inaugural 2022 Research Staff Excellence Award, said his interest in people led him to pursue a career in social science research and that he wanted to help contribute to the health and wellbeing of older adults. Singapore’s ageing population makes it increasingly important to address social issues related to older age groups, he added. Tan’s research has identified health and financial hurdles among elderly Singaporeans, while his own personal experiences of his parents transitioning to retirement have inspired his work. Tan aims to continue his research into how conditions in early life can shape health for people in later life.
