“Meet Laetitia Pierre-Auguste-Azémar and explore her eclectic artistic universe near Millau”

Like every week, Midi Libre goes out to meet artists from Millau and the surrounding area. Meeting with Laetitia Pierre-Auguste-Azémar.

It is in her haven of peace, her vineyard house near which she has installed her caravan that Laëtitia Pierre-Auguste Azémar invites us to discover her artistic universe as eclectic as it is contrasting. If she was born in Montpellier, it was in the surrounding countryside that she spent her time when she was a child, in the house of her grandparents. His grandfather, a key figure in his history, was “what is called a Sunday artist”, she explains with a certain pride as if to annihilate the somewhat pejorative aspect of the expression which comes to oppose amateurism to the great gallery owners. “In winter, he taught me grease pencil, in summer he invited me to draw what I saw during our visits: Provençal villages, the Alpilles. He always pushed me to try many things”, she says.

Cinephile and image lover

Later, when she wanted to attend the photography school in Arles, her working-class parents steered her towards university or the labor market. She enrolled in law school but continued to do amateur photography and theater. “I have always rubbed shoulders with the artistic world and I organized my first exhibition in the hall of the university, it was called La Ruée vers l’Art.” In general, Laëtitia Pierre-Auguste Azémar is inspired by mental photos that she takes in her daily life: “It adds up in my head and it gives compositions”. The artist has always written poems, she loves exhibitions, images and she is a film buff. His father and his brother are also in this environment. At a time when she was writing a lot, she had even started a short story. She has also created jewelry, mirrors in pebbles and driftwood. His favorite themes are reflected in the heart of his paintings, sculptures and various creations: women, nature, bohemianism, peace, tranquility.

soon poems

“If we could make a living from it, that would be great”, says the artist. She who has always believed in her dreams ended up buying the vineyard house she had hoped for some twenty years ago in Millau. In her somewhat bohemian garden, she longs for tranquillity. She is fascinated by living together and its difficulties. “It’s the theme of my life”, book this mother of two boys, adults today. It is through exhibitions that she particularly enjoys meeting people. “These are moments that allow me to be on the move, not to fall asleep, to boost myself. If we have projects, we move forward.” Laëtitia Pierre-Auguste Azémar hopes to be able to exhibit again next year and is working on the design of a tableau vivant. Other projects? Perhaps a collection of her poems on the theme of femininity and training in the manufacture of natural paints…

His first exhibition at the Vieux Moulin

She started with patchwork paintings, but took up acrylic painting as a challenge after a friend told her she couldn’t paint. “Once you touch paint, you can’t live without it”, she confides. “I found the thing of my childhood, the mixture of colors, the fact of being always in search.” His first exhibition at the Vieux Moulin, following his meeting with DAF, a local caricaturist, enabled him to then participate in Squ’Arts. “Lilaka”, her favorite character, comes to life in a life-size papier-mâché sculpture. At the same time painter, visual artist and jack of all trades, she likes to divert the material. His works are sometimes made of collages, on canvas or even plywood. She adds newspaper, mortar, objects. She also made a few years ago the throne of Santa Claus that all Millavois have already seen. Going from black and white to very colorful creations, Laëtitia Pierre-Auguste Azémar feels today “in full transformation”enough to give hope, again and again, of novelty.
