Meet Jacob: A Sniper with Supernatural Powers in Arkane’s Redfall

Redfall is one of the most highly-anticipated video games of the year, and for good reason. Developed by the renowned game developer, Arkane Studios, and published by Bethesda Softworks, Redfall takes players on an epic adventure as they battle vampires on an island in Massachusetts. Ahead of the game’s release, IGN has managed to secure exclusive new details on Jacob’s backstory and abilities, shedding light on what we can expect from this fascinating character. Let’s dive deeper into the world of Redfall and explore what makes Jacob such an integral part of the game.

The main characters in Redfall created by Arkane Studios each have unique talents, whether they acquired them through their job or were bestowed upon them mysteriously, like Jacob’s supernatural abilities. The character trailer above delves into Jacob’s background and his arsenal of powers, which he combines with his prior experience as a sniper. His abilities include commanding his raven to mark enemies, using his stolen Bellwether Cloak to hide from them, and summoning a ghostly rifle with his Ultimate Ability, called Heartstopper. Although he lacks a specific movement ability like Layla’s Lift, his cloak allows him to move quickly and freely around enemies.

Jacob’s backstory is one of growing up in a poor coal-mining community, being shuttled from one foster home to the next, and enlisting in the military as soon as he could. He went on to become part of a covert Special Forces unit before joining Bellwether, a PMC known for its involvement in international conflicts. He and his unit were dispatched to Redfall, where he was separated from his team and captured by the vampire goddess Miss Whisper. She forced a psychic raven and a strange eye on him for unknown reasons.

In addition to being an accomplished sniper, Jacob has a soft spot for cats and dislikes harming them, loves playing the acoustic guitar, reading mystery novels, and admires Emily Dickinson’s poetry. He, however, despises being on camera, caves, and anyone who harms cats. Redfall’s IGN First content continues throughout April, with exclusive character profiles, gameplay, and more being released. For example, you can find the first profile on Layla, which includes her background and abilities.

With this latest look into Redfall and the reveal of Jacob’s backstory and unique abilities, it seems that Arkane Austin’s upcoming title is shaping up to be an exciting and immersive experience. From the mysterious supernatural threat to the diverse cast of characters, this game promises to be a thrilling ride. We can’t wait to see what other surprises Redfall has in store for us when it launches exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in summer 2022. Stay tuned to IGN for more updates on Redfall and other exciting games!
