Meet Fegora Bianchi: A Remarkable Centenarian and Former Professional Cook

“I didn’t think a weakling like me could reach 100 years old!” “, ironically Fegora Bianchi, when she blew her 100 candles, this Thursday, August 3, at the Sainte-Madeleine nursing home, in Thionville. A moment that the centenarian was able to share with her four sons, two of their companions and her grandchildren.

“I am very moved, I am so happy to see everyone gathered for me, I love and I thank everyone”, confides the retiree, in a soft tone.

The family and the kitchen

The eldest of five children, who were quickly placed in a Catholic day care center for semi-orphans, Fegora visited her family every Sunday. She lived with her mother until her union at the age of 26 with René Bianchi, her father having died when she was 10 and a half years old.

Of Italian origin, “my mother was strict, she spoke with her hands”, she recalls. Her life was marked by the birth of her five children, one of whom tragically died at the age of eight months.

The dean practiced the profession of cook for 20 years and was regularly asked for weddings or even communions.

Her husband died when she was 82. It was not until 2018, at the age of 95, that Fegora Bianchi joined the Sainte-Madeleine establishment. She is surrounded by the affection of her children who visit her regularly.

In August and September 2024, this same retirement home should welcome two new centenarians!
