In Deux-Sèvres for two and a half years, Emmanuelle Brabant is a pet-sitter. She works in her clients’ homes with their pets. In the summer, she works every day.
It is 6 a.m. this Saturday, Emmanuelle Brabant starts her day. Like every day of the summer, she leaves for tens of kilometers in Deux-Sèvres to intervene with her clients with their pets. Dogs, cats, rodents or even donkeys, she takes care of many animals. Her profession, which she has been practicing for two and a half years, is a real vocation.
“I have always been surrounded by dogs. In my family, animals have always had a special place”
His grandparents were dog breeders, his mother trained herding dogs. Emmanuelle has had an experience in a canine club then carried out training on the behavior of the dog and the man. She now holds the certificate of knowledge of pets.
“You can’t improvise as a pet-sitter. It takes some experience. Me still today, I learn every day“.
She has been practicing this profession-passion for two and a half years. In the summer, she works seven days a week, 12 hours a day.
Today, the pet-sitter works 60% with dogs.
“I also intervened with parrots, dwarf goats. On the other hand, for reptiles, I don’t have the certificates of special ability on them and then I’m not super comfortable with them.“, recognizes honestly Emmanuelle.
This Saturday, we followed him on one of his visits. Scarlett and Newton, two English bulldogs are waiting for him. As soon as we arrived, the two dogs jumped on Emmanuelle. They are very happy to see her.
Their owners are gone for the weekend. Emmanuelle walks them, feeds them, looks at them then she makes a report and photos that she sends to their masters.
“We clean up, we look at them to see if they’re okay. I adapt to them. I always send messages, because I know it’s not easy to leave your animals and your house to someone“

For this work, she earns 14 euros per half hour. These customers, she chooses them after a free pre-visit.
“That works by word of mouth, but I always do a free first meeting to see the animals and their owner“.
With her clients, she intervenes one to three times a day.
“I organize my days according to the visits I have. I prioritize treatments, locked dogs and then walks at the end of the morning or at the end of the day. I can work until 10 p.m. and come several times for the animal“.
This is particularly the case with Françoise Winter. She took care of her cat during her hospitalization.
“The service is interesting, because she comes as many times as you want. She is knowledgeable, helpful and has a lot of empathy for animals. And then the report with the photos, it feels good when we are far from our baby“, says Françoise Winter, a fan of pet-sitting.
Emmanuelle does her work with clients of all social levels. It is his will.
“I don’t want it to be a customer service. Everyone is entitled to it, hospitalized people, others who do not have time to walk them. If he thinks about the welfare of their animals, I’m there“.
Today, her company, Les Copains à bord, has a busy schedule, 10 visits a day for Emmanuelle Brabant in August. A fair return, more than two years after her debut, for this pet-sitter much appreciated by dogs and their masters.
