A passion for many years

Emma caught the virus a long time ago. “My mother loved antiques, old things”, a taste for beauty “and noble materials” in which she has always been cradled.

Growing up, Emma enjoys using her hands and learns various manual labor with his parents. “It stuck with me. »

But it was in retirement, after a career in the hospital environment, that Emma discovered the auction rooms. “I really liked the atmosphere, with my father-in-law. Then I collected the items. And the clearance sales appeared. »

At first, she goes there to walk around and start buying things that sometimes he doesn’t necessarily like. “But I told myself that I would resell them and that’s how it started,” says the collector.

Little by little, we equip ourselves with a table, a parasol, things that are essential to us.

This passion takes her to Saint-Malo, to Nantes, to Saint-Brieuc, with a friend of her daughter “who drove me because he had a big car and liked that too”.

At the age of sixty, Emma occupies every Sunday, “if not the week”, for sale and bargain hunting.

La Rennaise also participated in the organization of the Franco-British fire sale, in Saint-Cyr. An activity on hold since Covid.

New practices and some flights…

Over the course of these forty years, Emma has seen practices evolve.

In the auction rooms, in the past, it was the show. Now, “it’s a lot on screen, with online sales.”

At garage sales, regulations have appeared.

“Before, we arrived a little later, the first ones there could choose the best location. It was cooler. Now you have to register.”

Emma also regrets the flights on the stands. “Especially the silverware, we have to tie them up. I had a Playmobil stolen too, last Sunday,” she notes.

A little notoriety

But whatever, the atmosphere remains good.

“Even if I do the clearance sale alone, it doesn’t bother me, because I spend my day talking with people,” appreciates the retiree.

People often say to me: ‘Oh, but you were at the clearance sale last weekend.’ People recognize me a little. We find the same people from one Sunday to the next. We met.

Sometimes bargain hunters come to Emma to look for a specific item. And when she doesn’t have it on her stand, she brings it back to the next sale.

Even people in the neighborhood consult it to get their opinion on the value of an object.

Although her passion is time-consuming, Emma nevertheless finds the time to other hobbies. She does the gym, restores armchairs, frames, lampshades.
