This type of fashion periodical is created by Sweden’s Carl Axel Wahlström, who claims to have created the world’s first AI fashion magazine. He designed all 300 pages with the help of artificial intelligence. Images from Midjourney and texts from Chat-GPT. After that, of course, everything was processed by people who eliminated errors and defects. Can’t do without us. A person is needed, however, because in creative work (and art in general) the machine does not work 100%.
The content of the magazine consists of series of art reports. As if from a car racing zone, as if from the backstage of a fashion show that never really happened. Paradoxes and strange occurrences, “Venture couture” (risky fashion) and short passages of text that sometimes resemble parodies. For example, a close-up of a model with the text “Experience the joy of expensive hope” (Enjoy the joy of expensive hope) and sequences of clothing produced by fashion houses that do not exist anywhere in the world. We see beautiful gowns that have yet to be sewn and models that are not yet born and grown up to wear these gowns. The fact that fashion sells a dream is now more than clear.
So, we are presented with a magazine with models and clothes that do not exist (in real life) at all. It is a bit strange that such a thing is offered by a machine – AI. The images are technically perfect. Even great. Nothing unexpectedly new or alarmingly unprecedented in the framing or angle. Because the machine has learned from what already exists. Therefore, it cannot surpass a person – a genius and does not offer anything new and unprecedented. But mediocrity is perfectly handled. The images are impeccably good and can compete with the average fashion photographer and the models that represent the majority.
