A source close to the official leadership of the VK called Dmitry Medvedev the “head” and “wedding general” of the party, while a source from the circle of presidential envoys said that Medvedev is “nothing at all” to them.
A source close to the Kremlin, describing Medvedev’s place in Russia’s “vertical of power,” called him an “armored train on a backup track” that could one day come in handy for Putin.
“Maybe he’ll put it back on track as a proven successor. Maybe he’ll rot on those spare tracks. The president isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.”
Two sources close to the Kremlin said Medvedev had given up hope of ever becoming president again. “
“He only wants one thing – for everyone to leave him alone. Both patriots and liberals,” said one of the sources.
Prigozhin and “Wagner” military coup
Although Medvedev frequently and dramatically threatens the use of nuclear weapons in various scenarios on his “Telegram” channel, he warned of the threat if the June 24th military coup attempt by the “Wagner” group had materialized.
“The whole world would be on the brink of disaster if Russian nuclear weapons fell into the hands of ‘bandits,'” the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council told Russian news agency TASS.
“Russia will not allow the rebellion led by mercenary boss Yevgeny Prigozhin to turn into a coup or a global crisis”.
The coup attempt was followed by Putin’s statement about the coup attempt on the evening of the following Monday, June 26, but the very next morning, June 27, the highest Russian security officials were summoned to the meeting.
“Verstka” noted that according to the Kremlin’s official website, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, did not participate in this conversation.
Earlier, the flight tracking service “ADS-B Exchange” indicated that Medvedev’s most frequently used plane had gone to Oman, where he was believed to still be on Tuesday morning.
