Andrei Rublev will overtake Daniil Medvedev in the new version of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, to be released on Monday 9 January.

In the first week of the new year, Rublev played in a tournament in Adelaide, Australia, where he lost in three sets early on to Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut.

Rublev, eighth in the world rankings, will move up two positions on Monday thanks to points lost by Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and Medvedev, defeated by Serbian Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the Adelaide tournament. Rublev and Medvedev will be separated by 70 points.

rublov first became the first racketeer of Russia in October 2017, then rose to 39th place in the ATP rankings, which was the best indicator among Russians. A year later, Medvedev became the best of the Russians in the standings, which then let Karen Khachanov go ahead.

Since August 2019, Medvedev has been the best Russian tennis player in the ATP.
