Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev commented in his Telegram account on the news of the approval of the German Bundestag for the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine. He stressed that this “ends sadly”. “The Bundestag has approved the supply of heavy weapons for the Zelensky regime,” Aktualno reported.
Evidently, German legislators are troubled by the laurels of their predecessors, who in the last century sat in the German parliament under a different name. This is sad for parliament. It ends sadly, “Medvedev wrote.
Earlier, 586 members of the Bundestag voted for the supply of heavy weapons to Ukraine, about 100 German parliamentarians disagreed with the initiative, seven abstained.
At the end of April, the German defense concern Rheinmetall submitted an application to the German authorities for the sale of 88 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine, Die Welt reported. It is noted that the first batch of 22 tanks can be sent to Kyiv within a few weeks. The rest of the equipment, if approved, will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of 2023.
The material states that the price of used Leopard 1A5 tanks is about 115 million euros. For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said inflating Ukraine and other countries with Western weapons threatened the continent’s security.
“In itself, the tendency to inflate weapons, including heavy weapons, to Ukraine and other countries are actions that threaten the security of the continent, provoke instability,” Peskov said in a comment on statements by British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss that Western countries need to strengthen the military potential not only of Kyiv, but also of Moldova and Georgia.
