ATP TOUR ⋅ The Russian Daniil Medvedev will be number 2 in the world rankings for the first time on March 15, as the ATP announced on Saturday.
Medvedev will overtake Rafael Nadal and become Novak Djokovic’s first challenger.
The Australian Open finalist is the first player outside the “Big 4” since Lleyton Hewitt 2005, who occupies one of the top two places in the world rankings. In the last 16 years only Djokovic, Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray occupied these positions.
Medvedev could have overtaken Nadal this Monday by making it into the final in Rotterdam. The Russian failed on the starting lap. (sda / afp)
