Tennis players from Russia and Belarus are not welcome at Wimbledon, which will be played from June 27 to July 10. The organization has decided this because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Due to this decision, the men, among others, Daniil Medvedev (number two in the world), Andrei Rublev (number eight) and Karen Khachanov (number 26) cannot enter London. Missing among the women are Aryna Sabalenka (number four in the world and semi-finalist of last year), Viktoria Azarenka (number eighteen) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (number fifteen).
“We understand it is hard that now the individuals have to suffer because of the regime of their leaders, but we have to take our responsibility,” said All England chairman Ian Hewitt.
