Médimoov, the Montpellier video game that facilitates rehabilitation

Re-educating yourself through sport is the niche that NaturalPad has chosen. This Montpellier company has been working since 2013 on MédiMoov. A sports video game, developed with physiotherapists, to motivate patients in rehabilitation.

On the TV, a camera records the movements made by the player. So there is no need for a controller anymore.

On paper, the concept is therefore reminiscent of the Wii console. As confirmed by Antoine Seillès, director of NaturalPad:

Our starting point was the Wii. Since 2011, it has been observed that many retirement homes buy the Wii. Except that these are games for the general public that require you to have cardio and to be able to make ample movements. It was therefore not suitable for people in retirement homes.

The movements offered by the video game are therefore “soft gestures” conducive to rehabilitation and muscle building.

More than a hundred health and medico-social establishments have already adopted MédiMoov. For Antoine Seillès the reason is simple:

It is a source of motivation. The fact that it’s fun, that there are lots of game mechanics that allow you to self-assess, it pushes players to surpass themselves. All these elements play on the person’s commitment to his rehabilitation. The patient will therefore more easily go to the end of his rehabilitation. Where typically 75% of people stop before the end.
