“Medimex 2023: International Music Conference and Concert Series in Taranto, Italy”

The Medimex is back. This morning in the meeting room of the Taranto MArTa Museum the event born in 2011 and consolidated as an international and music conference, a point of reference for the world music market. A very large concert program is expected, with Italian and international musicians: Skunk Anansie, Echo & the Bunnyman, The Cult 40 years after their first concert in Taranto, Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine, without forgetting the ‘landlord’ Diodato, born right in Taranto.

The location of the live shows will once again be the Rotunda on the seafront. On June 16, Ian MC Culloch’s Echo & The Bunnyman, one of the most important formations of the British scene of the 80s, and Antonio Diodato, who will present the new album, will perform. Saturday June 17 double date with Murder Capital and Skunk Anansie. Closing Sunday 18 with the performance of The Cult about 40 years after their first concert at the Tursport in Taranto, and Tom Morello, songwriter and guitarist of Rage Against the Machine.

EXHIBITIONS ON LOU REED AND ROCK GROUPS DRUMS

The 2023 edition of Medimex in Taranto, in addition to live concerts, will explore the close relationship between music and art with two exhibitions. The first, set up in the MArTA Archaeological Museum, will be dedicated to Lou Reed, ten years after his death, with photos of Andy Warhol and New York in the 1960s. The second, in the headquarters of the Ionian Department of the University, will host drums owned by artists and groups that have made the history of Rock, such as the Doors. The first details of the International Festival & Music Conference promoted by Puglia Sounds, the Puglia Region program for the development of the regional music system implemented with the Pugliese Public Theater, scheduled in Taranto from 13 to 18 June, were revealed today in the Headquarters of the Museum by Cesare Veronico, Puglia Sounds/Medimex Artistic Coordinator.

The press conference was attended, among others, by the president of the Apulia Region Michele Emiliano, the managing director of Cultural Policies of the Apulia Region Grazia di Bari, the director of the Department of Tourism and Culture of the Apulia Region Aldo Patruno, the councilor for Culture and Entertainment of the Municipality of Taranto Fabiano Marti. This edition marks the return to an international festival dimension with three evenings of concerts in the Rotonda del Lungomare of Taranto.
Professional and networking activities also return, the Schools of Music Crafts, «Racconti», appointments dedicated to artists, scenes and periods that have left a mark. And yet installations, presentations, music books and numerous collateral activities.

Great space will be dedicated to Apulian music with a live section dedicated to young talents selected among the winners of the Puglia Sounds Record tender. Thursday 15th June again in Taranto, at the ‘Spazioporto’ there will be concerts by a series of artists including: Vienna, Meschino, Larynn, Trevor, Leea Cleam, Rosanna De Pace, Freud’s Fraud, Salento All Stars and finally Macro.

INEXCABLE COMBINATION WITH TARANTO

«Today we reaffirm an inextricable union between Taranto and Medimex. We believe that this event is a tribute to Taranto and to all its human and cultural value which, through this event, is communicated to the region and the rest of the world». This was stated by the president of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano speaking at the MArTA Archaeological Museum at the presentation of Medimex 2023, scheduled in the Ionian capital from 13 to 18 June.

Taranto – he added – remains the main battle of the Puglia Region under every aspect. The rebirth of this city is evident to all; it is evident from the climate that reigns in the city, it is evident from the huge number of people who are also active from below».

“I also bring my greetings – the governor of Puglia then reported – to this great phenomenon of the May 1st concert (organized by the Citizens and Free and Thinking Workers Committee, ed.) which is a very important thing for us”. «I believe – Emiliano reiterated – that it is one of the most innovative concerts in the world from the point of view of the method. “I thank Cesare Veronico and Puglia Promozione, who are the protagonists, together with the municipal administration and the mayor, of this – he concluded – the cultural renaissance of the city”.

VERONICO: JOURNEY FROM PUGLIA TO THE WORLD

«Once again this year the Medimex is a journey from Puglia to the world and from the world to Puglia. With the headliners we propose a musical journey that starts from two fundamental groups of the 80s, Echo E the Bunnymen and The Cult, and reaches The Murder Capital, considered by critics among the most promising groups of the new post-punk scene, passing from undisputed idols of the 90s and 2000s such as Tom Morello and Skunk Anansie and Diodato, who in addition to being a brilliant representative of the Apulian music scene and also a bit of a landlord in his native Taranto». This was stated by Cesare Veronico, Medimex artistic coordinator, speaking at the press conference to present the Medimex 2023 exhibition, which will be held in Taranto from 13 to 18 June.
