Medieval festival with mead, music and Martin Luther

Geesthacht St. Salvatoris Church organizes Reformation Day in an original way. This time there will even be a second reformer there.

The congregation of St. Salvatoris Church in Geesthacht is embarking on one Time travelthe churchyard transformed on the occasion of Reformationstages on October 31st again for a small one Medieval market. The church reformer Martin Luther posted the 95 theses against the sale of indulgences on the church portal in Wittenberg in 1517.
Since 2017, jugglers, traders and castle ladies have been delighting visitors. Medieval games of skill invite you to join in, there are delicacies such as freshly baked stick bread, bacon flatbreads from the wood-fired oven, stew, cakes, apple punch and mead. Honey, scented oils and woolen goods can also be purchased.
Medieval market around the Geesthacht St. Salvatoris Church
The group “Sodalitas de Boreas”, which translates as “Circle of Friends of the North Wind”, will be there with a smaller line-up this time. The visit of the reformer John Calvin creates excitement for the first time. The well-known French theologian and contemporary of Martin Luther died on May 27, 1564 in Geneva (Luther on February 18, 1546). Community educator Dr. Andreas Seifert in this role.
The reformer from the past wants to talk to the guests about his view of the situation. In addition, over 20 people from the community will be walking around the site in medieval costumes.
It starts on Monday, October 30th at 6 p.m. with a camp and ambience evening. To set the right mood, candles and fire pits will illuminate the area. With mead, apple punch and music you can enjoy the atmosphere around the fire barrels and start a conversation.

Confirmants sell home-baked bread
On October 31st, a special Reformation service will ring in the Luther Festival at 11 a.m. The confirmation candidates will sell homemade bread. As in previous years, the proceeds from the sale of the 5,000 loaves of bread go to the “Bread for the World” campaign. And at 12.30 and 2 p.m. the Salvini circus jugglers will show off their skills.
