“The anger of many cultural, political and social associations in the area has not subsided at all following the resolution of the regional council of last February 4 which, going against its own limit of ordinary administration, approved the activation of the degree course single-cycle degree program in Medicine and Surgery Td (Digital Technologies) which will be launched starting from the 2021-2022 academic year at the University of Calabria.
But even more serious is the attitude of the Rector of the Umg of Catanzaro, prof. Giovambattista De Sarro, whose name will forever be remembered as one of the architects of the disappearance of the University of Catania; disappearance which, despite ourselves, we foreshadow a few years from now if the suicide act with which the intarateneo agreement with Unical was signed is not remedied.
In fact, one fact does not escape people endowed with sense, foresight and realism: the medical faculty of Catanzaro needs to be supported, enhanced and strengthened to keep up with the times and to support the efforts, including economic ones, that contingency places in front of them. to such a complicated management. Just think of the difficulty of maintaining graduate schools year after year. That’s why thinking about another medical course, 80 kilometers away, is simply insane. Others before us have already reiterated it: wouldn’t it be a gesture of virtue and cooperation if the three Calabrian universities cooperated with each other without invading the skills of others but, on the contrary, helping each other?
Hence our doubts about the agreement between Umg and Unical on Medicine. Not from anything else.
In the face of all this, on 8 February we sent an e-mail to the Rector De Sarro at 12.26, asking him to meet with a representative of the writers. A meeting requested by that civil society whose commitment is often invoked or praised, and which as an expression of the dynamism of a territory deserves to be heard by the institutions. Unfortunately De Sarro does not respond. He did not answer us and we are afraid he will not answer, locked up as he is in his academic fortress.
However, we hope it will be able to repent at least to accept a civil confrontation with subjects and associations which, unlike other situations, have only one purpose: to give value, progress and growth to the territory. In this specific case, through one of its most important expressions: the University. Take this appeal De Sarro. Show that you are sensitive, open and useful to the community ”.
