For the first time in almost three and a half months, the United States has registered fewer than a thousand new daily deaths related to the corona pandemic.
In the last 24 hours, 749 deaths were registered, according to the survey by Johns Hopkins University. That is well below the daily record of 4,473 deaths recorded on 12 January.
Not since November 29 has the daily death toll been below a thousand. This is an indication that the pandemic is weakening in the United States, where infection rates are now on a par with the time before Halloween, Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays.
This is also good news for President Joe Biden. His huge $ 1.9 trillion corona crisis package is close to being approved by Congress. It contains plans to scale up and increase the pace of vaccination in the country.
So far, close to 10 percent, 31.5 million, of the US population has been fully vaccinated with either two doses of the Pfizer-Biontech and Moderna vaccines, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
