Medicine / Health, Illness | 31 reports of blood clots in coronary vaccines in Norway

The Norwegian Medicines Agency has been notified of a blood clot in 31 people who have received a coronary vaccine in Norway.

The Norwegian Medicines Agency weekly report provides an updated list of reports of possible side effects of coronary vaccination as of 9 March.

As of Tuesday, they had received 4,985 reports of suspected side effects, of which 2,479 reports had been processed. 296 are thus classified as serious and 2,184 as not serious.

As of March 9, 31 cases of blood clots had also been reported in people who had taken the coronary vaccine in Norway.

– Four of the cases concerned younger people. This means that the reports mainly concern the elderly who often have another underlying disease, without a connection being established with the vaccination, the Norwegian Medicines Agency writes.

Not concluded with context

In the weekly report, the Norwegian Medicines Agency refers to the report of one death in Denmark as a result of a blood clot after vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine. On Thursday, the National Institute of Public Health therefore chose to put all vaccinations with this vaccine on pause while further investigation is ongoing.

The death in Denmark led the Norwegian Medicines Agency to wait to publish the weekly report until they had collected and reviewed all cases of blood clots after coronary vaccination reported to the adverse reaction register.

In Norway, one case of a blood clot has been reported in a person who has received the AstraZeneca vaccine. This is a person under the age of 30 in the Inland, where the cerebral haemorrhage had a fatal outcome.

– It has not been concluded that there is a connection between the vaccine and the unexpected death. This will be thoroughly investigated.

Does not change recommendations

30 people who have taken the Biontech / Pfizer vaccine have had a blood clot, while no reports of a blood clot have been received after vaccination Modern’s vaccine.

The reports of side effects that have been treated now do not provide a basis for changing the current recommendations on the use of coronary vaccines in Norway, the Norwegian Medicines Agency states.

The vast majority of reports of side effects are considered common and expected. These include pain at the injection site, headache, general malaise with fever, fatigue, nausea and pain in the body.
