Children’s book publishing house “Liels un mazs” for both adults and ghost story lovers who have just learned reading skills released writer Maris Rungulis’ book “Rain of Blood”. This is the third book in the author’s ghost story trilogy. Like the previous two, this one too illustrated by artist Christian Brekte. –
Writer Māris Rungulis has been collecting and publishing ghost and horror stories spread among children since the 1980s.
“I am a pretty sharp realist. I like realistic details, actual events. I have also written realistic stories for a long time, ”says the author. “For many years, I have been looking for a way to tell historical stories to modern children about times they have not lived.”
In recent years, using contemporary folklore stories, ghost story books have been written for middle school children – “A Walk in the City of the Dead”, “Three Deaths of St. Martin” and now the concluding part of the trilogy “Blood Rain” has been published.
Māris Rungulis explains: “Those books are united by narrators – five sixth grade students, three girls, two boys. Tells the ghost stories of his county in three different situations. Therefore, the subtitle – “Stories of the Ghost of the River”. The teacher also participates in the madness of storytelling, in the passion of storytelling. She tells the stories of her childhood, in which I can tell history in more detail. ”
In 22 stories, the author has also used his childhood memories and at the same time reflects the events of 20th century history.
“We aliens – people who have experienced other times – and these children are united by such ancient subconscious fears. This is the unifying element, ”emphasizes Rungulis. “I even wrote afterwords to my parents saying that these stories are medicine for fear.”
The ghost stories of “Rain of Blood”, like the other books in the trilogy, are inspired by visual illustrations by the artist Christian Brecht.
Māris Rungulis notes: “Kristiāns Brekte looks at it with a smile. He is such an artist – a showman. He looks at it with such ease and easily turns it into a grotesque. ”
Meanwhile, Kristiana Brektes can be seen in the gallery “Istaba” until November 21 solo exhibition “Blood Rain”, in which the original works, which have not been shown to the public so far, summarize the visual transcripts of the books “A Walk in the City of the Dead”, “Three Deaths on St. Martin’s Day”, and “Rain of Blood”.
