Medical team saves Iranian pilgrim from blindness after severe retinal detachment

A medical team at the Eye Health Center at King Abdullah Medical City in the Holy Capital succeeded in saving an Iranian pilgrim from blindness after suffering from severe and complete retinal detachment, which is associated with severe myopia in the eye.

The medical city received the patient, who was in his fourth decade of life, as an emergency case, and after conducting the necessary examinations, it was found that he was suffering from a complete and severe retinal detachment in the left eye, with cataracts, in addition to severe myopia in the eye, retinal atrophy, and burgundy.

The medical team evaluated the patient’s health condition, subjected him to the necessary examinations, and the operation was performed on him with the participation of the medical team, where the doctors removed the cataract and implanted an eye lens, in addition to fixing the retina using silicone oil to enable the patient to regain sight after the retinal detachment, and the operation was successful after it took a long time. two and half hours.

The doctors confirmed that the pilgrim will be able to return and complete his rituals, given that there is sufficient time before the start of the pilgrimage rituals, and for the retina to heal.

It is noteworthy that the Eye Health Center in the Medical City conducts this type of medical procedure for retinal detachment on a weekly basis, thanks to the center’s distinguished medical expertise, as well as modern equipment that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques government has harnessed to serve citizens and pilgrims.
