Nearly 350 medical students will try to raise as many funds as possible on Friday, October 13 in Dijon and Quetigny to offer gifts to children hospitalized in Burgundy.
For more than 20 years, medical students have organized a major quest every year in the streets of Dijon. This event is now a highly anticipated tradition for the people of Dijon, always there to bring smiles back to children.
The Anemone association
Since 2018, a non-profit association has been created by medical students from the Faculty of Dijon under the name, Anémone. Its objective is to organize various events for the benefit of sick children from different establishments in Dijon and Burgundy. The most famous event is “Sick Children’s Christmas”. With the funds raised, student volunteers purchase numerous gifts, which are then distributed to hospitalized children.
“We grant a budget to the hospital centers of Dijon, Auxerre, Mâcon, Nevers, Chalon-sur-Saône as well as medical-educational institutes,” explains Coline Marrocq, Vice-President of communications of the association, and adds “Usually they ask us for gifts for Christmas, which we distribute during the holidays. Last year, thanks to the generosity of the people we met, in addition to the gifts offered, we organized a carnival for the children of the IME Mosaïk in Dijon. We have also made some donations for research into cystic fibrosis and for the Dijon association Croq Diabète dedicated to diabetic children and their families.
350 students on the streets in Dijon and Quetigny
Coline Marrocq : “For the collection, we will start our day around 7 a.m. in different strategic districts of Dijon but also, and this is new this year, in Quetigny. We will all be dressed in white coats and different medical accessories. This year, in addition to medical, dental and pharmacy students, we will have midwives for the first time. There will be no less than 350 of us, you should easily come across us. All day long we are going to walk the streets to raise money for the Christmas of sick children hospitalized in health establishments in Burgundy.
“I too was a sick child hospitalized”
“Being a sick child at the end of the year, I can tell you that it is complicated for children and their parents. I know what I mean. I too was a sick child hospitalized. I had very bad asthma attacks and I spent part of Christmas in the hospital. Even if our parents are there, we are still in a sterile environment, we are not at home, in our room. And anyway, we are all sick. The atmosphere is obviously not festive. But as soon as there is a little activity, it brightens the day and brings a smile back. So I imagine the happiness that these children can feel when we bring them gifts during Christmas, which did not exist during the period of my hospitalization”
Collection in Dijon and Quetigny
“The objective is to bring a little happiness to children forced to spend the end of year holidays in hospital. Last year Anémone managed to raise nearly 52,000 euros thanks to the generosity of the passers-by we met but also via the online prize pool. This year, the collection is scheduled for Friday October 13 in Dijon and Quetigny.
