Last year students of the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of La Plata joined a national claim to have their degree. They created a video that went viral and now await a response from the faculty, the UNLP and the Ministry of Education of the Nation.
The pandemic changed the plans of all sectors and university students are not strangers. According to the proposal of the medical students, the idea is to access the title to be part of the battle against the coronavirus.
This happens with students from other careers who are in their final year and await the moment to render their profession. In some cases, they were able to do it through virtual platforms, as this newspaper has published in these months of quarantine.
Describing a distressing situation, UNLP’s last year Medicine students put together a video that went viral to express their problems.
“There are more than 200 boys ready to process their degree and be able to go out to face the pandemic. For more than 5 months they have not received news from either the authorities of the Faculty or the Ministry of Health ”, Lucio Camusso, one of the promoters of the claim, told eldia.com.
In the video they recorded you can see a group of students making known the situation they are going through.
“Do you know why we students in the last year of health careers cannot graduate?”, The video begins, and continues with different voices: “Only at UNLP we are 200 people who could be in a position to join the health system and the workforce of this pandemic. We are waiting for everything to return to normal so we can conclude our careers. This situation is the same that occurs in all the faculties of the country. That is to say that during all of 2020 no doctor will be received. That is why we want the relevant authorities to generate exceptional measures for this exceptional moment. And that we can be the professionals we dream of and that people need ”.
It ends with the students displaying posters with captions that read “We want our title” and “We want to help in this pandemic.”
HOW DID THE IDEA COME ABOUT
According to what they told this newspaper, the idea came up through WhatsApp groups and social networks, and they managed to join forces with students from medical universities across the country who are going through a similar situation.
“Since the month of March, with the advent of the pandemic, the last practices to graduate and obtain the degree were suspended and since then we have been totally helpless and without any response from the relevant authorities,” said Camusso.

He also added that “we believe that when we are in a health emergency, where health professionals are more than required, it should be a priority that we obtain the title.”
In different universities in the country, complaints were made from medical students and other careers to take the last subjects in order to get the title and start practicing.
