Medical groups participating in the ruling and opposition party discuss withdrawal | Dong-A Ilbo

Dong-Hoon Han “Establishment of Gyeongbuk National Medical University”
“There is no sincerity in the conversation”

Jinwoo Lee, President of the Korean Medical Association. News 1 There is a growing possibility that the ruling and opposition party council, which was launched after much trouble on the 11th of this month, will face a breakdown due to the withdrawal of medical groups. In a situation where discussions continue to draw parallel lines, medical groups are protesting against People Power Party representative Han Dong-hoon’s recent promise to ‘establish a new Gyeongbuk National Medical University’, saying, “There is no sincerity in the conversation.”

According to the medical community on the 28th, the Korean Medical Association and the Korean Association of Medical Colleges and Graduate Schools of Medicine (KAMC), which are participating in the consultative body, plan to hold an internal meeting on the 29th to discuss whether to suspend participation in the consultative body. Lee Jin-woo, president of the Korean Medical Association, reportedly said at an internal event on the 28th, “Without a groundbreaking change in the government’s attitude, it will be difficult for the consultative body to continue.” KAMC, a group of medical school deans, will also hold a dean meeting on the 29th to discuss whether to continue participating in the council.

The consultative body held three general meetings until the 24th, but was unable to narrow down differences. When a representative who proposed a consultative body said at a National Assembly debate on the 26th, “We will definitely achieve the establishment of a new Gyeongbuk National Medical University,” the medical group responded, “It is absurd to establish a new medical school in a situation where the amount of expansion must be reduced.”

On the 28th, the Emergency Response Committee of the Korean Medical Association (KMA) said, “Representative Han’s remarks are an acknowledgment that the ruling and opposition party consultative body is an ‘alibi’ consultative body (that it made efforts for legislative dialogue),” and added, “We requested the two organizations to leave the consultative body.” “I do it,” he said. A medical school professor said, “They said they were giving a Christmas gift to the people, but in reality, they were only thinking of giving a gift to local residents in the form of a new medical school,” and added, “I think both organizations will come out of the consultative body.”
