Medical College pays tribute to the “heroes in white coats”

The medical community honored those doctors who gave their lives in the fulfillment of their vocation through a painting contest that portrayed the bravery, kindness and commitment of these heroes to the service of health.

In a gesture of deep respect and admiration, the Medical College of El Salvador (COLMEDES) honored the “heroes in white coats, those doctors who put the health and well-being of others before their own, to the point of offering their lives.” for the health of their patients.

Through a painting contest, an attempt was made to capture the commitment and values ​​of a profession marked by sacrifice. This was highlighted by Dr. Gloria Patricia Argueta de Cativo, secretary of the COLMEDES board of directors.

This tribute not only celebrates “the contributions of medicine, but also the commitment, sacrifice and professional excellence that doctors have embodied during their careers. The tribute is an offering of love to the health heroes, who day after day they expose themselves, and not only risk their health, but also their lives,” he added.

The contest was very well received within the Salvadoran artistic community. The works were evaluated by a jury made up of architect Carlos Párraga, plastic artist; Dr. Gladys de Molina, who paints empirically; and Camila Várá, distinguished in plastic arts.

Fredy Araujo was the winner, with his painting: “Offering of love to health heroes.” He is a visual artist, painter and illustrator who graduated in Plastic Arts from the University of El Salvador.

“The first thing I worked on was the concept, the idea and above all the tribute. And I came to the realization of a sketch where the central image is the doctors, both women and men, both with the same visual weight and the same prominence. I titled ‘Offering of love to health heroes’ because symbolically, they give their hearts, they give their lives,” the artist explained.

He also reflected: “it is a profession that has a lot of work. And also those who died before and during the pandemic, that was the basic concept on which I began to work. Then I added symbolic elements, such as the human body, flowers.”

During the emotional tribute, Dr. Carlos Ramos Hinds, vice president of the Medical College, reflected: “We have chosen the most noble and humanitarian of professions, but we are rarely given recognition. Our reward goes beyond… it is the satisfaction of curing a disease. , the joy of improving a patient’s quality of life and the joy of saving a life.
