Actually, in my opinion, they should focus on high image quality, low input lag, and possibly a decoder for TV/analog signals. So that chip from the article should only support the image signal and user interface (settings) of the screen.
Then, for example, use an HDMI slot intended for smart TV/streaming and connect it to a smart TV button on the remote control. Then the user can choose whether to connect a chromecast, apple TV, Android box or laptop/desktop PC, etc. to it.
If you do include some android interface, it would be nice if you could just disconnect it and replace it or just free up the hdmi port when it is outdated or no longer supported.
There seem to be solutions for it + apart from that; (at the moment) a TV manufacturer would distinguish itself by supplying no or modular smart TV unit.
