Jakarta, Selular.ID – Global semiconductor company MediaTek announced the MT8192 and MT8195 chipsets designed for the new generation of Chromebooks today (17/11). The MT8192 chip is 7nm processed for mainstream devices, while the MT8195 chip with a 6nm fabrication is designed for premium devices.
“Chromebooks are now getting a tremendous increase in popularity as more and more people work from home and study online. MediaTek is already powering some of the most popular Chromebooks in the market, and we will continue to improve and drive the user experience with these new chipsets, “said Jerry Yu, Corporate Senior Vice President of MediaTek, to Selular, Tuesday (17/11).
Jerry further said the MT8192 and MT8195 chipsets provide device makers with more features to design the most powerful Chromebooks with innovative rotatable, fold or detachable shapes, are thin and light, and have very long battery life.
The MT8192 and MT8195 integrate a high-performance APU (AI processing unit) to run a wide range of voice and vision applications. MediaTek’s advanced APU technology is designed to seamlessly process identity recognition via voice and voice control, word and image recognition, word to text, live translation, object recognition, background removal, noise reduction, image and video segmentation, and motion control , all in real-time. These chipsets also feature a dedicated audio DSP (digital signal processor) to activate VoW (voice wakeup) which uses very low power for the voice assistant.
Device makers can design Chromebooks with a variety of camera configurations thanks to the HDR (high dynamic range) image signal processor and hardware depth engine built into the chipset. This gives device makers the option to integrate a super-large 80MP 4-cell camera, a single 32MP camera or a dual camera up to 16MP + 16MP to provide sharp HDR for video conferences.
The MediaTek MT8195 is built on the TSMC 6nm process, integrating an eight-core CPU with four Arm Cortex-A78 cores for compute-intensive applications and four power-efficient Arm Cortex-A55 cores to simultaneously handle background tasks and maximize battery life. The MT8195 also integrates MediaTek APU 3.0, with AI performance of up to 4 TOPS. The Arm-Mali G57’s powerful five-core GPU delivers gorgeous visuals, while the four-channel LPDDR4X 2133MHz ensures there is ample memory bandwidth. MT8195 also supports up to three simultaneous screens so that users can enjoy more screens, when working, playing games, or just surfing the internet.

With support for Dolby Vision, Surround Sound 7.1 and a hardware video accelerator CodeC AV1, users can enjoy a cinema-quality experience for streaming movies and television shows from popular online services. In addition, the hardware decode AV1 uses less data while still offering an excellent graphics and smooth video experience.
The MediaTek MT8192 integrates an eight-core CPU with four Arm Cortex-A76 cores and four Arm Cortex-A55 cores providing the ideal balance between power and efficiency. MediaTek APU 2.0 provides AI performance up to 2.4 TOPS. This chipset also has an Arm Mali-G57 five-core GPU for gorgeous visuals, plus LPDDR4x 2133MHz and UFS 2.1 storage. The MT8192 supports a WQHD (wide quad high definition) display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate, or a FullHD + display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz for super-fast response rates. In addition, this chipset also supports two simultaneous Full HD displays.
Both chipsets also integrate 4K HDR video decoding for outstanding video quality while maximizing battery life, allowing users to watch their favorite content for longer. The MT8192 and MT8195 also support PCI-Express Gen 3 and USB 3.2 Gen 1. Chromebooks using the MT8192 will hit the market in the second quarter of 2021. The MT8195 will run premium Chromebooks, smart screens, tablets and other smart devices, coming soon then on the market.
