MediaMarkt Considers Taking Over Bankrupt BCC Branches, Excluding Almere and Lelystad

Electronics chain MediaMarkt is considering taking over some branches of the bankrupt BCC, but not in Flevoland. The chain writes in a letter to BCC staff that it concerns nine stores. The branches in Almere and Lelystad are not on that list, an employee tells Omroep Flevoland.

MediaMarkt has targeted the BCC branches in Amsterdam, Barendrecht, Beek, Beverwijk, Delft, Hilversum, Muiden, Nijmegen and Zoeterwoude. The conversations are still tentative. The chain first checks whether the BCC stores comply. MediaMarkt has a total of 48 branches in the country, including one in Almere.

It is not yet clear what will happen to the branches in Almere and Lelystad. The shops closed on Tuesday due to enormous crowds during the bankruptcy sale. Both branches have now reopened, but do not indicate when. The only way to find out when the BCC is open is to visit. Security guards are also present at both locations.
