Last Monday, a man won the art competition at the annual Colorado State Fair, thanks to a work made using artificial intelligence (AI). But this is not to everyone’s taste.
Controversial art. On August 29, Jason Allen won first place in the Colorado State Fair competition in the digital art category, thanks to a work of art created using artificial intelligence.
Entitled “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial”, his creation depicts an opera scene in a distant universe, in which the characters are faced with a huge circular opening, from which an intense light comes. The decor halfway between the Baroque and the futuristic style sublimates this painting, with warm colors.
MIDJOURNEY Artificial Intelligence
To accomplish this, Jason Allen used Midjourney artificial intelligence software. Instead of a brush, it was his voice instructions that drove the AI. Proud of having won this competition, Jason Allen is however aware that his work is not unanimous: “I knew it would have caused controversy”.
“It’s interesting how all these people on Twitter who are against AI-generated art are the first to throw the human under a bus discrediting the human element,” he exclaimed last Tuesday, on the Discord server, before questioning himself. : “Does it seem hypocritical to you guys?”.
His reaction follows the numerous criticisms he faced after winning the contest. Indeed, many Internet users, especially artists, have expressed their dissatisfaction. “We are watching the death of art unfold before our eyes,” noted a Twitter user, while artist Genel Jumalon called Jason Allen’s work “pretty shit”.
