A total of 74 contacts were listed and follow-up started. The household and medical facility decontamination operation was also launched.

The Minister of Health, Jean-Jacques Mbungani sent a message to local communities inviting them to get involved in the response so that the epidemic is quickly brought under control.

“I invite the people of Mbandaka to get involved in the response, because with proven experience in the management of the Ebola virus disease, during recent epidemics, the response teams of the province, accompanied by the central level , will be able to control this epidemic as soon as possible, ”said the Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention.

Mr. Mbungani confirmed on Saturday April 23 the resurgence of the Ebola virus disease epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), precisely in the province of Equateur. He said that teams from the provincial health division and those from the health zone of Wangata are already hard at work for response activities.

The Ebola virus disease epidemic has already claimed one victim. This is the only confirmed case so far, in the health zone of wangata, city of Mbandaka, province of Equateur. The patient was a 31-year-old student who was treated, after testing, at the Ebola Treatment Center (CTE) at the Wangata General Reference Hospital on April 19 before dying two days later.

He had presented characteristic symptoms, mainly hemorrhage. This new Ebola epidemic in the DRC is the 14th in the series. The 13 epidemic had raged in North Kivu for two months before the government declared its official end in December 2021.
