The “Saarbrücker Zeitung” reported on Monday.

The background is the lower number of corona cases in Leipzig and Dresden. According to party circles, plans are still being made with Stuttgart – but a move is being considered if the situation in Baden-Württemberg’s capital should worsen.

A party spokesman told the German Press Agency: “The planning for the party congress on December 4th near Stuttgart is in place. Nothing has changed about that. A comprehensive hygiene concept has been drawn up to enable a safe party congress on site.”

According to the “Saarbrücker Zeitung”, the final decision should be made at the federal board meeting on October 26th. On the weekend, Stuttgart exceeded the important warning level of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

On December 4th, at the meeting of 1001 delegates, introductory speeches by the candidates and the election of the entire party executive committee will be held. The candidates with the best chances of success are NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet, ex-Union parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz and foreign politician Norbert Röttgen.
