Media Park Hilversum longer protected due to threat at RTL Boulevard

The Media Park in Hilversum has been designated as a security risk area for a long time because of the threat surrounding the broadcasts of RTL Boulevard. The visible and invisible measures apply for an indefinite period of time.

The television program has been broadcast since Monday from an extra secured location in the park, instead of in the regular studio on Leidseplein in Amsterdam. The decision followed the attack on crime reporter Peter R. de Vries a week ago and the threats RTL Boulevard last weekend. As a result, several broadcasts were canceled.

There has already been a temporary security risk area in recent days. The Hilversum city council approved an amendment to the General Local Ordinance (APV) last night, which makes the additional measures possible for a longer period of time. The designation means that officers can perform preventive searches in and around the park and, for example, trunks can be checked.

‘No risk at all’

“We want to have arranged the security of the Media Park as well as possible in view of the events”, acting mayor Charlie Aptroot (VVD) said after the vote. NH News. “We are not taking any risks.”

Yesterday afternoon the acting mayor visited the editorial of redactie RTL Boulevard together with the regional police chief. “I have seen the emotions of the people in the editorial. Some have experienced up close what happened to Peter R. de Vries last week, others were at work last weekend when there was a threat,” says Aptroot. “I have felt the emotions and that is very intense.”

At the moment there is still a lot of uncertainty about the condition of Peter R. de Vries. The crime reporter’s son and daughter thanked everyone for the massive support in a video message.
