Media in Turkey: Lyutvi Mestan supports NATO, Dogan – Russia –

/ world today news/ DPS leader Lyutvi Mestan, who supported Turkey and NATO after the downed Russian bomber, has been removed from his post, the reason is the different position on the problem of the honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan, the media in the southern neighbor reports.

Mestan’s dismissal came about after the disputes in the party about the country’s foreign policy, and the declaration justifying the actions of the Turkish Air Force and in support of NATO’s position, presented in the Bulgarian parliament, turned out to be a key factor in his removal, DW writes in its Turkish section . This was done at an extraordinary meeting of the party’s central leadership, held in Dogan’s villa, but in the absence of its formal chairman, Mestan. Thus, until the election of a new leader, the party of the Turkish minority in Bulgaria will be led by three members. Honorary chairman and founder of DPS Ahmed Dogan advocates the thesis that Bulgaria should not be part of the Turkish-Russian conflict. Mestan, who is known as a supporter of Turkey, believes that the country did the right thing with its actions regarding the Russian fighter jet, while Dogan believes that Bulgaria, as a member of NATO, should not take sides in the crisis between the two countries, the publication states. It was also emphasized that the DPS, founded in 1990, is a key party in Bulgarian politics and the role of its electoral potential in parliamentary and presidential elections is particularly large.

The numerous publications on the subject in the various media in Turkey do not fail to point out that the DPS is a political representative of 10% of the Bulgarian population, namely the ethnic Turks, heirs of the rest from the time of the Ottoman Empire. V. “Milliet” reported the removal of Lütvi Mestan in an article with the title “Defend Turkey, they threw him out of the party”. “Crisis in the Turkish party”, reports the regional daily “Olai” in Bursa, where almost all emigrants from Kardzhali region are concentrated. “I stand behind my words. In the Bulgarian parliament, I presented a statement on behalf of our parliamentary group regarding the Russian plane that violated the airspace of Turkey, and I do not accept that this is a mistake, I stand behind every word of the text,” says Lyutvi Mestan after the news of his exclusion, quoted by “Olay”. The newspaper notes that it was the declaration in question that caused the anger of Honorary Chairman Ahmed Dogan, who defined the position as a blunder. It is also stated that Mestan’s removal is the finale of the tension between him and Dogan. The DPS will elect its new leader at the national conference in March next year, and until then Cetin Kazak, Mustafa Karadayi and Rushen Riza will perform leadership functions in the party.

Today, the former president Lyutvi Mestan did not attend the first of the series of commemorative rallies in memory of the victims of the so-called “revival process”, which are traditionally held in Kardzhalisko at the end of December. Today, the regional leader of DPS Bahri Yumer and MP Shabanali Ahmed, who were in Mestan yesterday during the extraordinary press conference, took part in the demonstration in the village of Mlechino. However, for the first time they were not among the official guests, but stood out among the audience. On the other hand, the triumvirate Riza-Kazak-Karadai was on the improvised tribune. According to established practice, the important guests participate in the large commemorative events near the Turkyan fountain in the village of Mogilane on December 26 and in Momchilgrad on December 27. At his yesterday’s meeting with journalists, Mestan stated that he will attend these two rallies, no matter in what capacity. He doesn’t pick up the phone today. Both rallies are scheduled for tomorrow, consecutively. It is expected that the foreign minister of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, will join them. /BGNES
