PEKANBARU – Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) continue to increase in Riau province. So far, 1,671 cases of dengue have been found attacking Riau residents over the course of 2022.
From the latest data released by the Riau Provincial Health Office, it was recorded that for a month (September) there were another 164 cases of DHF scattered in 7 regencies and cities of Riau.
The bad news is that there were 2 more deaths in September in Kampar Regency. So much so that the total number of dengue fever deaths in Riau has now reached 13 people.
The head of the provincial health office of Riau, Zainal Arifin, on Friday (14/10/2022) reminded all health offices at health centers of all regencies and cities of Riau to increase vigilance. So far, his party has sent a letter to the district health office.
“We have written to the district and city health office to follow up on this issue prepared by the region. It should not be overlooked, because it is quite dangerous,” said Zainal.
In addition, cases are expected to increase in the coming months, especially in October and November 2022. Because at that time it was still the rainy season in the Riau province.
“We coordinated with regencies and cities to anticipate the increase by providing advice and education to the public,” he said.
Zainal explained that the instruction that could be released to the public in anticipation of the spread of the dengue epidemic was to promote the 3M movement.
“This means draining bathtubs, stockpiling used goods and closing water tanks that have the potential to become nesting places for dengue fever mosquitoes,” he said.
Additionally, Zainal also instructed all Puskesmas to be consistent and to do prevention regularly. Because puskesmas is the closest party to the community.
“Other prevention efforts that can be made are fogging or fumigation, it is also effective so that there are no mosquito eggs and larvae, because they will continue to reproduce when there is a favorable environment,” he said.
