Medal rain for the people of Gargždi at the European Master of Sports Games

Over the weekend, the 10-day European Master of Sports Games ended in Tampere, Finland, where more than 6,000 masters of sports from around the world competed in 29 sports.

The achievements of kayakers in these games were particularly abundant. Among other sports clubs, Lithuania was represented here by representatives of the Gargždai sports club “Sportuok su Sigitu”: Sigitas Bulovas, Verner Šermokas, Aida Vilimienė and Gintautas Šiaškus. Their achievements in the Games are truly impressive.

Sigitas and Werneris won the highest gold awards in all events – 200, 500 and 5000 meters while paddling a double kayak.

Gintautas took 3rd place in the 500 m event in a pair with the Lithuanian Aleksander Ambot, who lives in the USA.

Aida, who formed an international team with a Polish representative, took 1st place in the double kayak group in the 5000 m event.

The representatives of the Gargždai sports club also demonstrated the best results when swimming in a quadruple kayak – they were unmatched in the 200 and 500 m races.

The victories achieved together with colleagues are gratifying, but the most important and memorable for each athlete are individual awards, which require the most effort to win. Gargžda athletes were also unsurpassed in the single kayak class.

Club leader Sigitas was most happy with the gold medal he won on the last day in the 500 m track. Aida also won a gold medal in the same event, and she won a bronze medal in the 200 m event.

Having demonstrated their strength, the representatives of the Gargždai sports club brought back 10 medals of various colors (mostly gold) to Lithuania. The people of Gargždi are grateful to the municipality of Klaipėda district for the opportunity to participate in the games. We are proud of our countrymen!
