According to Luísa Grillo, Minister of Education, this is a very important program for the country. Planaleitura, as it is called, aims to create in Angolan society, in general, the habit of reading, since, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), there is still a low level of reading habit in Angola. population.
The person in charge, who spoke this Wednesday, 10th, at a press conference when the aforementioned plan was presented, stated that many people only read when they need to. As an example, she said that many students become more concerned about developing their reading skills when exams approach, and others when they need something.
“Reading feeds the spirit, the soul and enriches people. Reading is a very important exercise, it is an activity that everyone should embrace and practice”, she argues. He considers that it does not require effort, everyone can and should read for pleasure, to relax and seek more knowledge about the country and the world, as the book helps its reader to travel and discover geographic spaces where they have never been.
The idea is for the book to be a friend to children of all times, whether it is poetry, romance or a short narrative. According to the source, the internet does not replace a book and with the National Reading Plan it aims to show that the book will never be replaced. Although he recognized the existence of online or digital books, he argues that the physical book is irreplaceable.
“When we read, we internalize it through all the senses, through vision, touch, and even through taste, we can enjoy a good read”, he highlighted. The plan in question, given its scope, also includes creating the reading habit for non-visual people. The consultation program at the level of the province of Luanda began yesterday, and contributions from the other provinces are awaited.
On the 25th of this month, general contributions will be presented at the Mutu ya Kevela school. The initiative is open to all ministerial departments, school managements, the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA), teachers, students, guardians, researchers, among other interested parties.
He stated that they have financial support, without specifying the amount, because the idea is that there will also be greater production of books and that prices will be accessible to everyone, since the country has some printers that can provide the necessary support to the program. . Another challenge, no less important, concerns the availability of books in national languages that the plan will cover, to ensure that the original languages are not forgotten.
