Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Grabowhöfe: No millions for bridge to rail

From: November 6, 2024 2:46 pm

The mayor says the town is in danger of bankruptcy if it has to pay for the bridge over the railway.

The city of Grabowhöfe (Mecklenburg Lake District) refuses to pay 3.5 million euros for the renovation of bridges. The railway requested this portion of the upgrade from the community. Mayor Enrico Malow (CDU) explained in the full hall of the local council that a loan from the time of reunification had just been paid off and that the community was now in danger of bankruptcy. It cannot be justified by the renovation of the bridge over the tracks on the Berlin-Rostock route to save two minutes of time, which the ICE could then drive faster. “We will go through every legal situation if we have to,” Malow continued. Now it must be decided in Berlin who will pay for the construction of the new bridge. The railway had already indicated that they would accept this decision.
