Reliability of the engine and its suspension, failure of electronics and quality of the body. These were the main criteria according to which 239 professional mechanics marked only the most popular cars in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The individual models were evaluated similarly as in school from one to five.
The winner in the price range over two hundred thousand crowns was the third-generation Škoda Octavia (2012 – 2019). “Production of this Octavia began in 2013, with a facelift at the trade fair in Vienna in January 2017. Among the most popular used cars on Czech roads, the Octavia III is number one. Ninety percent of our mechanics would recommend it,” says ProfiAuto project director. in the Czech Republic and Slovakia Jindřich Krejčí.
Nevertheless, there are, of course, cases where you have to go to a car repair shop with this Octavia. Professionals in this model most often repair faulty wiring, EGR valve and front silent blocks, sometimes the front shock absorbers also flow.
The Škoda Superb III came in second in the unique ProfiAuto survey, followed by the Volkswagen Passat B8, Golf VII and the first generation Tiguan (2007-2016). “The younger brother Octavia with the Superb designation holds the Car of the Year 2016 title and would be recommended by the vast majority of our mechanics. It is the first vehicle in the history of the Mladá Boleslav brand to offer an adaptive DCC chassis. the car also has problems with injectors, faster brake wear or axle suspension, “describes Krejčí.
In the case of Volkswagen, drivers often complained about problems with locking the doors and wiring, in the case of the B8 model, the rear brakes in particular wore out quickly, and the Tiguan was bothered by stabilizer bars.

Hyundai cars fared the worst, with only the second-generation Superb topping them at the top of the list. The i30 III (since 2016) and iX35 (2009-2015) models fared the worst. “If the winning Škoda had wiring problems, these problems were almost negligible compared to Hyundai cars. For example, the iX35 very often has short circuits, especially in air conditioning, the i30 suffers from a TPMS sensor. In Hyundai cars, corrosion is a very common problem. soundproofing and low endurance of the clutch and brakes, “describes Lukáš Czauderna, a consultant for the development of ProfiAuto Service.
The research took place last year and mechanics evaluated the 50 most popular cars in the Czech Republic, divided into three categories according to purchase price. How used cars turned out in price ranges of up to 100 thousand and 100 to 200 thousand crowns, see here:
The aim of the survey was to provide Czech customers with the most comprehensive overview of the reliability of popular vehicles. “Before buying a car, most people look for the most reliable information about the selected model. But it is often missing. Czech drivers usually have to rely only on the advice of acquaintances or Internet reviews. But very few surveys compare cars with each other, and usually do not reflect the situation on on the Czech market, ”explains Krejčí.
The evaluated models were selected on the basis of data on car registrations and sales for the period 2004–2018 according to the Association of Car Importers.
