Meat traders siphoned nearly BGN 1.5 million from VAT –

/ world today news/ The special prosecutor’s office hit meat traders who were evading VAT and failing to pay corporate tax in the amount of nearly BGN 1.5 million.

The investigative department of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, with the assistance of experts from the National Narcotics Agency, carried out an action to stop the activities of an organized criminal group, created for the purpose of non-payment of corporate tax from the meat trade and draining VAT in Sofia and the country, the special prosecutor’s office announced. According to the evidence collected so far, the group has damaged the state budget by nearly BGN 1.5 million.

A system of so-called missing and buffer traders was created for tax evasion and non-payment. The “hollow” companies issued documents to real meat traders, with which they fictitiously increased their annual expenses, reduced their profits, and thereby reduced the corporate tax paid into the treasury.

The chain of companies also damaged the state budget by deducting VAT from fictitious sales of goods among themselves.

After permission was granted by the Specialized Criminal Court, on August 27, 2015, searches were carried out at various addresses in the capital and the country. A lot of physical evidence was seized, including computer configurations and documentation of “missing” and “buffer” traders. Interviews of witnesses are being carried out, expert examinations of the seized material evidence have been appointed. The damage caused to the state is also specified. Charges are pending.
