Again, a post about reckless drivers, or a request for help, appeared on social media. Like Sarló Street, it is a problem in several parts of the city that many people park in front of an apartment building without living there. Although this is not against the rules in itself, as the parking lot in front of the apartment building is a public place, it still causes great concern for the residents there. But it is not only unpleasant, if there is a risk, an illegally parked car can limit or prevent assistance. There are people who park in front of the entrance or on the pavement, thus obstructing pedestrian traffic. And the number of drivers reporting problems is increasing, because the parking areas in front of old apartment buildings were not designed for the same amount of traffic and number of cars as today. On the other hand, there are more and more cars.
That’s why a toll gate was recently built in the parking lot in front of Interspar on Budai út, s toll gates are appearing in more and more places in the city. Although, at the moment, it is only in the frequent places where a department store is close to a residential area, because the customers prefer to park in the car park of the nearby housing estates, putting of the inhabitants there.
Although resourceful owners of houses and apartments like to solve the situation with their own hands and put some kind of physical barrier in front of the house, this is not a regular solution. The owner of the building cannot prevent parking in public places, he cannot put stones or stakes in front of the house so that others do not stand under his window.
We dealt with the subject recently, and learned from Attila Mészáros, deputy mayor of Székesfehérvár, that “hundreds of parking lots have been built, for example, in Víziváros, in the area of old heating power plant, but many parking spaces were also built in Palotaváros. […] The next big milestone in the city’s transport development could be the construction of public parking spaces. The way of the future is the kind of P+R parking system from which everything is 15 minutes away – either by public transport or on foot”.
