Measures to Relieve France’s Housing Crisis: PTZ Extension and More

The country is going through a major housing crisis. Several measures will be detailed to relieve the market and help the French to access property.

The Prime Minister will present this Monday, on the occasion of the restitution of the work of the National Council for Refoundation, several measures to try to stem the housing crisis.

Indeed, the production of new buildings collapsed and interest rates rose. Professionals have sounded the alarm. The market is under pressure and many individuals are unable to access property and see their applications refused. The sector needs both concrete measures that are easy to implement, but also to drive a longer-term vision.

This loan will still be means-tested, but it should be“refocused” on the purchase of new housing within a collective housing operation or for the acquisition of old housing in a tight area, subject to the completion of renovation work. Elisabeth Borne should also announce a relaxation of the conditions for granting loans for first-time buyers and rental investments.

On the housing construction side, the government wants to make it more flexible to obtain building permits in tight areas. A zoning review to bring more municipalities into tight areas is also one of the tracks.
