It has become a real headache for many elected officials across France. The Minister of the Economy, Bruno le Maire, announces new measures for local authorities facing problems with their insurance, in an interview with Midi Libre.

Global warming, riots, vandalism… elected officials facing many difficulties
“The riots that we experienced at the beginning of the summer (in more than 500 French municipalities, editor’s note) revealed the insurance difficulties of communities. On the one hand, we have municipalities which see the challenges they face multiply: consequences of global warming, acts of vandalism, renovation needs. On the other hand, we have insurers who are faced with a sharp increase in the costs of claims which are multiplying,” he observes.
“Faced with this, in the immediate future, we have decided, in conjunction with the insurance sector and the mayors of France, to extend the jurisdiction of the Insurance Mediator to disputes between an insurer and a community after a disaster” , announces Bruno the Mayor.
Mediator and mission
“Above all,” continues Bruno le Maire, “we are going to launch, with Christophe Béchu and Dominique Faure, a mission bringing together experts, elected officials and insurers in order to define long-term solutions to facilitate insurance for local authorities.”
