The departments of North and Moselle are particularly affected by contamination.
Measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus will be stepped up in the urban community of Dunkirk and the community of communes of Hauts de Flandre, local authorities announced on Saturday.
Among the new measures are the implementation from Monday of staggered hours in nursery and elementary schools in order to avoid crowds, mixed mode operation (face-to-face / distance) in middle and high schools and the strengthening of border controls. with Belgium and the United Kingdom, specify in a joint statement the prefecture of the North, the regional health agency (ARS) of Hauts-de-France and the academy of Lille. Controls on wearing masks in public spaces will also be stepped up. At the same time, the vaccination campaign on the territory of Dunkirk will benefit from additional doses of vaccine and the ARS will launch a screening campaign next week in several municipalities in the sector. Finally, “it is recommended, as far as possible, to limit movement to and outside” of the urban community and the community of municipalities, the statement said.
The authorities justify these measures by the fact that the evolution of the epidemic “brutally degraded in recent days”, specifying that the incidence rate now reaches 515 cases per 100,000 inhabitants against 384 a week ago and 213 in the whole of the Nord department.
In Moselle, the prefect Laurent Touvet announced on Saturday that schools remained open in this department hard hit by the Covid-19 epidemic. He also ruled out any reconfinement measure, requested by some elected officials, believing that the current measures are sufficient.
