Measures and Strategies to Mitigate Influenza and Malaria: Ministry of Health’s Vaccination Campaigns and Prevention Measures

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) continues with measures and strategies to mitigate the increase in cases and deaths due to the influenza virus in the country where the main tool is vaccination.

On the subject, the Vice Minister of Health, Ivette Berrío, specified that at the national level the campaigns for the application of the dose of the vaccine against influenza have been intensified.

He explained that the vaccine is applied free of charge in all the polyclinics of the Social Security Fund as well as in the Minsa Health facilities.

“We continue to be a people with a high level of awareness, recognizing that vaccines are the main weapon to combat influenza,” he said.

He stressed that this is an important rainy season, so cases of other respiratory viruses are also handled and the population is requested to maintain prevention measures.

According to the latest report in Panama there are 42 deaths from the influenza virus.

Malaria

The National Government has reinforced the vector teams throughout the national territory, mainly in the areas where the cases occur the most, such as the Guna Yala region, Darién and where an increase has been reflected in the case of Bocas del Toro.

Finally, he said that there have been no serious cases of this disease in health facilities.

According to the latest epidemiological report, a total of 6,977 cases of malaria are registered throughout the country.
