The government has failed to do the same with Oslo, which has recently had very high infection rates.
– Our assessment is that the Oslo City Council has introduced strict measures and is considering further. It is Oslo that decides its own measures now, says Minister of Health Bent Høie (H) to NTB.
Partly stricter in Viken
The fact that Oslo is not covered by measure level A according to the corona regulations means that Viken has stricter measures in certain areas. For example, Viken has had to stop top sports and close its campuses.
– Oslo has for a long time had very strict measures. That Oslo does not have all the measures in A, will not be an argument for changing A, says Høie.
The Minister of Health nevertheless reckons that Oslo will use the level of measures in the work of determining local measures.
Oslo was imposed strict, regional measures in connection with the mutation outbreak in Nordre Follo, but has since 18 February been “only” bound by local and national measures.

Further tightening in Oslo came into force on Wednesday. Among other things, there was all-digital teaching for upper secondary school, upper secondary school and adult education, as well as a ban on more than two visitors in private homes.
– The City Council has used the strongest tools we have in the toolbox to reduce the infection. At the same time, this is not something we can decide on through measures alone. Each of us has a great responsibility , says City Councilor Raymond Johansen (Labor Party) to Dagbladet.

The capital has registered 495 new corona infections in the last 24 hours. That is 214 more than on Wednesday last week and by far the highest so far during the pandemic.
– The infection rates from yesterday are very high. It shows the seriousness and how aggressive the British, mutated variant of the virus is, says Johansen.
The social closure of Oslo has lasted since Tuesday 10 November.
