Measles Outbreak in Campulung Muscel: Number of Patients Alarmingly Increasing

The measles virus is spreading in Campulung Muscel. The number of patients is increasing alarmingly. In February, the Câmpulung town hall issued a statement announcing that the confirmed cases in the municipality area have increased considerably. And since then the number of illnesses has increased a lot until now. Doctors announce that the best prevention measure is vaccination.

Measles is an extremely contagious disease and the symptoms can easily be confused with those of the flu.

“The disease is due to the measles virus, which is transmitted extremely quickly, from person to person. It is a pecific human virus. Before the rash appears on the body and you know it is contagious, the sick person is also contagious for another four days after the rash appeared. Measles has an incubation period and the patient may not show any signs, and this can be 10-12 days before the first signs appear, then there is the prodomabal period, with flu-like symptoms.

The patient starts to cough, has a slight fever. The throat is red, then the signs of measles appear, a red rash. Appears on the head, then hands and feet. A specific sign that whitish spots appear in the mouth. Because there are several childhood diseases, they can be confused with each other. It is embarrassing to talk about measles with the vaccination at hand which has eradicated the disease by 90%.

Illness during childhood gives us protection for life. During this period we faced this epidemic, because people were no longer vaccinated. It spreads very quickly. We are after the Covid pandemic and people are scared and refuse the vaccine. Now it’s a combination of measles, rubella, mumps, vaccine and people are scared, that it would give autism.

At the national level, vaccination coverage with the first dose is 78%, and with the second dose 62%, in children. The trend has been decreasing for more than 10 years”, Tabita Stănoiu, vice-president of the Society of Family Physicians from Argeș, told Muscel TV
